Behavior 101.

In dogs, just as with humans, there are 4 major factors that determine behavior.  Genetics (what is in mom and dads genes), exposure (what have they been exposed or hidden from?), the environment (what has been going on around them), and education (learning better behavior patterns are what humans and dogs should always do).

How many of these do you control when you invite a new four-legged addition to your home?  The obvious answer is three.  What mom, dad, and the grandparents had in their DNA is probably beyond your control.  This is why you give maximum effort to the other 3 and give your new best friend to best chance to succeed.

This comes with practice.  Unfortunately, in our lives we don’t “practice” dog training.  We may be faced with the opportunity once every decade and a half.  Dennis Danskin deals with this every day of his life and believes that personal, humane dog training in YOUR environment is essential.  Please call him for a free in-home visit at (702) 327-4744.

Training a Pit Bull.

When you see those gut-wrenching scenes from the animal shelters what do you see more than anything else?  You probably notice an inordinate number of Pit Bulls who are ready for adoption.  So many people love this breed, and far too often they are neglected by former owners and now are in need of a loving home in the Las Vegas area.

Here are some things that I have noted over decades of training Pit Bulls and other breeds that have been perceived to be aggressive.  For one thing, teach them to relax.  I always try to train them in a calm environment.  Obedience becomes a lifestyle.  I teach them to look me in the eye.  DO NOT use choke chains, shock collars, or clickers.

Pit Bulls have wonderful personalities and make amazing companions for your entire family.  In Las Vegas, there are thousands of beautiful Pits ready for a forever-home.  Let me help you integrate this amazing breed into your home environment.  I have trained dogs both great and small for over fifty years.  Call me to come to your Las Vegas area home.  My phone number is (702) 327-4744.

Teaching an Old Dog New Tricks.

That old adage has gone out with the horse and buggy.  Yes, you CAN teach an older four-legged addition to your household new behavioral patterns.  As a matter of fact, it may be absolutely essential when you adopt a new dog (new to your family) from somewhere that does not know their “story”.

There is the obvious…potty training.  Your new furry friend may be afraid of everything.  Then there is crate training of a dog that may have never experienced such things.  Of course, loud noises can trigger erratic behavior including barking which you may want to discourage in your household.  Also, how does the new addition get along with kids?

There are a myriad of things that your new (not so much a puppy any more) may need to learn or re-learn.  That is why you call on the half-century of expertise that Las Vegas humane dog trainer Dennis Danskin brings.  He has trained young and old, large and small breeds since the 60’s (Not 1860’s…it just seems like it!) Call Dennis for a free in-home visit at (702) 327-4744.
