Start ‘Em Young!

Oh, how true that is.  If you start training a puppy from the get-go you will not only ensure greater success, but you will get the maximum joy out of the next dozen plus years.  That does NOT mean that an old dog can’t be taught new tricks…look at Tiger Woods!  The truth is, if you have a puppy under 6 months old let’s get to it.

Just weeks ago, your new four-legged child was jumping and playing with its peers.  You know that’s true…puppies come with same-age siblings and the behavior that they displayed just weeks ago is simply no longer acceptable.  They were born to live in your forever home.  You will be doing them an enormous favor by teaching them the ways of your household.

To achieve that beautiful balance, it is important to seek the advice and methods of a professional puppy trainer.  If you live in the Las Vegas Valley you should know the name Dennis Danskin.  He has been training our area’s dogs and puppies for over five decades.  Please call him for a free in-home visit at (702) 327-4744.

Accentuating the Positive.

NO, NO, and NO.  How many times have we used that word in our lifetimes?  Chances are, we have uttered it more often than YES.  Positive reinforcement vs. negative reinforcement.  It is an ongoing discussion in the workplace, child rearing, personal growth, and in the world of dog training as well.

One example of negative reinforcement is when the dog’s bottom is pushed to force it into the sitting position.  Another example of negative reinforcement is often used when working with a dog that is afraid of things such as other dogs.  Negative reinforcement comes with risk.  One 2014 study shows that dogs trained in this manner are 3 times more likely to display aggression among family members!

Come on now, you really don’t want that for the next dozen years or so, do you?  Dennis Danskin, a nationally renowned humane dog trainer right here in Las Vegas practices positive NOT negative reinforcement.  Please visit his website at www.trainhumane.net.  Then give him a call for a complimentary in-home visit at (702) 327-4744.
